Attorney Shawna M. VanHook will assume ownership of longstanding Somerset title company, Southern Title, LLC as of September 14, 2023. Southern Title has operated under the ownership of local attorneys Mark Knight and Bruce Orwin and businessman Don Moss since 1995. The agency provides title examinations, title insurance, real estate closings and escrow services in Pulaski County and surrounding communities.
“Maintaining the expertise and trust connected with the Southern Title name is important to our community,” said VanHook of the transition. “With that in mind, we will continue to operate the business under the Southern Title brand that has been known in this community for nearly three decades.”
Southern Title will move to a new location in the months ahead, on the second floor of the old Citizens Bank building at 48 Public Square. VanHook and her husband, Jerry, acquired the building from Somerset attorney John Prather, Jr. earlier this year. The first floor of the building remains a law practice with VanHook and Prather sharing space for their respective practices.
In the spirit of continuing the Southern Title name and brand, the Kentucky-shaped sign outside of the current Southern Title office will move to its new location.

Shawna VanHook opened her legal practice in Somerset, Kentucky in 2023, returning to the state where she spent some of her early career and where her husband was born and raised. VanHook earned her undergraduate degree at Purdue University in Industrial Management with a minor in Industrial Engineering and attended law school at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law where she also received a Certificate in Health Law. She spent the past several years working as an attorney at Stuart & Branigin LLP in Lafayette, Indiana and focuses her practice in real estate, estate planning, special needs planning, probate, employment law, medical malpractice, and civil litigation. Outside of work, Vanhook enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and running.
